Sunday Drive Photo Series 2

image

Get your refreshing coconuts here!

Sunday is a beautiful day for a drive. The town is quieter, people smile even more than usual and the time goes just a little slower. There is lots to see out the window and your arm gets quite a workout from waving at all the pikininis (kids).

This Sunday I decided to take photos of our regular drive from Honiara out as far as Bonegi. We used the main highway as well as the back road from White River to Gnossi. It’s one of my favorite things to do in Solomon Islands. I hope you enjoy the photos.

A lady named Mary selling tomatoes at the side of the road. We bought some for dinner.

Very green foliage.

The palm trees near Bonegi.

A sea eagle flying above us. What a treat!

People leaving church.

The shops look very similar along the road. They all seem to sell SolBrew, milk, and phone credit.

I have been passing this hut for 18 months now and every time I think ‘why would you paint Anorexia Detroit on it?’ Still no answer.

After church finishes, families walk home together and the kiddies get icy poles.

Ladies stopping to check out the beautiful flowers. My favourite petrol station is hiding behind.

I bet the owner of this house loves their view!

One of the many villages along the road. They have beautiful gardens.

Little girl being carried up the hill.

Approaching Kakabona Beach. The water was bright blue today.

Looking down at all the houses in the valley.

These trees always make me feel like I am on an African safari!

Lovely Turtle Beach.

  1. What fantastic photos. Wonderful articles like this will only help perpetuate the Pineapple Post into a Solomon Island’s institution. Keep it up.
