Review of Raiders Hotel, Tulagi Reply

My partner and I recently stayed at the Tulagi “Raiders” Hotel and our experience far exceeded expectations. Having stayed at another hotel in Tulagi last year, we had a fair idea of the standard to expect. We were pleasantly surprised and excited upon arrival to realise that the accommodation was far superior to expectations. Owners Bob & Yvie have done a lot of work in getting this place up to scratch, with brand new imported pillowtop beds, new linen and towels. The air-conditioned rooms are immaculately cleaned daily as well as a same day laundry service.

We were very impressed with the delicious meals that were always delivered within 15 minutes of ordering. We would recommend the beautiful fish & chips or the fresh local caught squid (salt & pepper/ chilli).

The crystal waters in front of the hotel overlook a tropical coral reef full of sea life. You are able to walk into the water from their private sandy beach and snorkel around in front of the balcony. We took our own boat over to Tulagi from Honiara, so we packed our push bikes and paddle boards. This gave us the opportunity to cycle 8kms around the island and jump on the paddleboard whenever we felt like it.

We managed to do 4 outstanding dives while over there – the Twin Tunnels, the WWII Catalina aircraft as well as 2 reef dives. Being a beginner diver myself (have only done 11 dives), I felt comfortable and confident in Bob & Yvie who were happy to offer their experienced company on all dives. Raiders dive boat ‘Small Boy’ was a perfect platform for safe blue water diving.

Some afternoons we grabbed a couple of drinks from the bar and went sunset fishing 5 minutes away (Double Island), and were fortunate to catch a couple of Spanish Mackerel! When we weren’t fishing, swimming, snorkeling, cycling or diving, we relaxed over our books and settled into dinner with a nice glass of wine.

Overall we were really impressed and the staff were excellent. Bob & Yvie were super accommodating and we enjoyed their company like old mates (the Aussie Kiwi banter never got old!). Thoroughly enjoyed staying here and with it situated so close to Honiara we will certainly be returning!

The hotel has 8 rooms, fourteen beds, Dive Shop, Conference facilities, in-house restaurant and Raiders Waterside Bar.

200 meters from Discovery 360 Wharf (check schedule with operator)

You can bring your own boat (safe & secure mooring onsite).
