It’s been a traumatic time for our Pacific neighbour of Vanuatu. Cyclone Pam has devastated the country in what has been described by the UN as one of the worst natural disasters in the region.

If you’re in a position to do so, please consider donating to the Australian Red Cross Appeal. Red Cross volunteers are on the ground providing first aid, supporting people in evacuation centres and distributing emergency relief items. Many of the supplies they are handing out are similar to what we needed last year in the Solomon Islands floods: hygiene kits with soap, toothpaste and other essentials, tarpaulins for emergency shelter and kitchen supplies.

Thankfully many countries have started to make sizeable contributions to assist in the clean up. Yesterday, Australia  announced a $5 million aid package which is to resource NGOs and provide support in the form of water, sanitation and shelter.
