Solomon Island’s best ocean swimmers are counting down to the inaugural Kakabona Ocean Swim on the 15th November 2014. Triathlon Solomon Islands (TriSI) is inviting all keen swimmers to jump in and join them for the 1 km Kakabona Classic, 500 m Challenge, or 100 m Pikinini Splash.
After the great success of the National Triathlon Championships last weekend, the triathletes haven’t stopped training as they have their eyes on the great prizes on offer at the Kakabona Ocean Swim race. This year has seen the TriSi team build their pace and strength in the water, and they’re looking forward to some tough competition from Honiara’s top swimmers and energetic expats.
Thanks to the generous support of Honiara Hardware, Rexona, the Bulk Shop and Westpac there are great prizes for both women and men in the 1km and 500m distances, as well as prizes for the fastest pikininis and plenty of giveaways. After the recent excitement of seeing the Solomon Island’s first ever women’s triathlon champion TriSI is hoping to see lots of girls coming down to Kakabona and getting in the water.
Spread the word, start your training and then join in the fun at Kakabona beach on 15th November. Registration is from 7.30-8am and entry costs $100 for expats or $20 for locals, with entry for students and pikinini by donation. There’s a special giveaway for all female entrants and a free event swim cap for the first 80 registrations, so get in early. The race will start at 8.30 sharp and for the tired athletes there will be plenty of famous Kakabona BBQ and coconuts after the race. All proceeds will go to supporting the TriSI athletes as they build towards the 2015 Pacific Games and beyond.
