Easy to get to from Honiara on a Friday afternoon Sol Air flight, Conflict Bay Lodge is a lovely village homestay on Marau Sound. My daughter and I had a wonderful weekend there in early June.
According to owner Elijah, Marau means ‘the island you go to’ and Sound is for the passage as well as the sound of the waves crashing on the reefs on the horizon. The Lodge has solar power, a cool breeze straight off the ocean, flushing toilet and a cool shower. Ezekiel and Dorothy cooked our tasty meals and served them beautifully. He is also a staff member of Tuvanipoupou and he served the Duke and Duchess when they stayed there.
We had a great time hanging around in the hammocks, walking to Marau Station and thru the garden village, playing Frisbee with local kids, snorkelling just out the front of the lodge and just admiring the view. Best thing was a boat trip to Kosa Island, absolutely breathtakingly beautiful. At a cost of $85AUD per day each for bed and all meals, plus extra for the boat trip, it was great value. There is also 2 other options for accommodation in the village: ‘Pecullar Lodge’ and the Coral Gardens which looked nice too.
Happy to promote Conflict Bay Lodge for Elijah and family.
